3 Hours Before Flight Time
Hiking the Giant Mountains is a very popular way to spend free time during your stay in the mountains. In the vicinity of the Friesovy bouda complex, there are several hiking trails in the Giant Mountains.
Early pick-up, transfer to Pec pod Sněžkou, meeting with the guide, by lift to Sněžka (1603 m), trek along Poland border to Luční bouda (3 km), brewery excursion, overnight.
Pec pod Sněžkou lies 750 m above sea level. It was founded at the location of a miner’s settlement at the end of the 16th century. Thanks to forest harvesting, the settlers established meadow enclaves here, they built dwellings and bred cattle. Later, in the second half of last century, chalets, pensions and hotels emerged – a new livelihood for the inhabitants after the slump of ore extraction. Pec lies at the heart of the Krkonoše, surrounded by the highest peaks of the Krkonoše.
We end up our short town sightseeing at the new cabin cableway opened in 2012. Riding in two stretches, we overcome almost 700 altitudinal metres, and in doing so we’ll be among the first visitors to reach the summit of Sněžka (the name originates from the 19th century and means “covered by snow”). We’ll take a look at the 14 m high rotunda – the Chapel of St. Laurence and have a wonderful cup of coffee at the new Česká Poštovna. The captivating Krkonoše panorama can be viewed from the freely accessible sightseeing terrace.
Following red and blue marked paths we continue our walk along Poland border through Úpa peat-bog to Luční bouda (1410 m), the oldest and biggest mountain chalet in the Krkonoše. We’ll be spending the first night on the Krkonoše ridges here. The hotel has its own bakery and microbrewery. We make the time before supper more pleasant at the brewery cellars. The tour includes tasting the local beer“Paroháč”directly from the tanks. A delicious three-course dinner includes fresh rainbow trout.
