Did you know that Andorra is a true paradise for hikers? 93% of the
country’s surface is pure nature, characterised by majestic peaks,
glistening glacial lakes, green flower-filled high pastures with peacefully
grazing cows and horses.
The Principality is divided into three Y-shaped valleys, carved out by the Valira rivers, and made up of 7 parishes. These seven parishes are: Andorra la Vella, Canillo, Encamp, Escaldes-Engordany, la Massana, Ordino i Sant Julià de Lòria.
The mountains, drawn by crops, forests and pastures, are the country’s greatest natural wealth, preserved for centuries.
Andorra is also home to a multitude of lakes, nature reserves, chapels and Romanesque bridges spanning clear torrents. In this massif mainly composed of proud summits and elegant granite needles, water is omnipresent.
Coming from the snow-capped heights, it has also interfered in the bowels of the earth, to reappear in around thirty hot springs, draining the remarkable ultra-modern thermal complex of Caldéa.

Hike: 9 km 380 m, 200 m, aprox.5 hours.
We start our hike in the Ransol Valley, and walk on old mountain paths through pasture areas, surrounded by dry stone
walls, broom, scattered red pines and golden thistles. Now we follow the path over the Cauba Pass (1909m). After a
break, we now turn north and the landscape changes: we walk through a dark pine forest, and soon hear the Riu
mountain stream of the Riu valley rushing. After a rest at a small bridge, we hike leisurely on to our destination for the
day, the decaying barns of Armiana. In the afternoon we drive to the spectacular viewpoint: Roc del Quer at 1930 m
Hike: 6 km 280 m, 280m, aprox.4 hours.
It all starts in the Sorteny nature park, which is protected due to its more than 700 species of Pyrenean flowers. We walk past a small botanical garden, and through a pine forest to Lake Estanyo (2300m), on
Foot of the second highest peak in Andorra, the Pic de Estanyó (2915m). In the afternoon we make another stop in the
Village: la Cortinada, where we visit the Cal Pal mansion, where one of the most important families of Andorra used to live
Hike: 7 km 480 m, 480m, aprox.4.5 hours
The Ransol Valley is one of the most pristine valleys in Andorra: we follow a path along a cheerfully bubbling little mountain stream, up to a small plateau. From here we walk along a panoramic path on the sunny side of the glacial valley. We continue downhill through a black pine forest to the « Coma de Ransol » bridge. If you feel like it, you can cool
your feet in the clear mountain stream here. In the afternoon we visit the modern sanctuary of Meritxell, where Andorra’s patron saint is venerated.
Hike: 8 km 450 m, 450 m, aprox: 4 hours.
We follow the tracks of the Tour de France up to « Es Hortell », at an altitude of almost 2000 metres. From here we now go « poc a poc » up a mountain path. We pass a plateau and after a last, steeper ascent we are rewarded by an overwhelmingly beautiful view of the glittering Tristaina lakes of the glacier basin. In the afternoon, we first take a short city tour of Andorra la Vella, and then have some free time in the modern capital.
Hike: 11 km 560 m, 560 m, aprox.6 hours.
We walk in the Incles valley on an almost flat path surrounded by rhododendrons through a pine forest. Now we cross a small mountain river and continue to the sunny side of the glacial valley. We climb « poc a poc » up to the glittering mountain lake « Cabana Sorda » (2300m), next to the unmanaged mountain hut of the same name. A bear has sometimes been sighted here, which seems to cross the border from Andorra and France from time to time. After a break at the lake, we go downhill across high pastures and wooded areas, enjoying the magnificent views of the Incles valley.
Hike: 7 km 480 m, 480m, aprox. 5 hours
« When I see the lake, I don’t need the sea any more ». The quote fits our hike today in Andorra’s largest glacier basin with its enchanting, glittering mountain lakes. This is also the home of the friendly marmots. On our circular route, we are constantly offered new views of the majestic mountain scenery. In good weather, we can even see as far as the French Carlit massif.
