Santiago de Compostella & Muxia
This way ( Camino ) is an epilogue of the Jacobean route. It leaves directly from Santiago in the direction of Finisterre, specifically to Cabo Fisterra. This point was long considered the end of the world. Some pilgrims choose to do the section in reverse. The signage throughout the tour is good. More and more people want to live this experience and it is gaining popularity, to such an extent that the City Council of Fisterra has created the “Fisterrana”, which is obtained by showing the duly stamped credential. But do not forget that this title is not official.
This stage is two-way. Some, like us, are going to Muxía, but many others are heading towards Finisterre, that is why there are signs in both directions. There are those who prefer to do the kilometers that make up this Camino in one go. In this case we divide the section in two, which makes it much more enjoyable and bearable and allows you to enjoy the experience more without getting too tired.
As is the case on the Camino a Fisterra, pilgrims who continue to Muxía can obtain the “Muxiana”, a document that certifies the pilgrimage up to this point. Although it is not official, it is a good memory to take home and remind us of this beautiful experience.
There is also the possibility of doing this path WITHOUT accommodation in Santiago.

It is known as the Camino de Fisterra y Muxía the extension of the Camino de Santiago that connects the Galician capital with Cape Finisterre and with Muxía, both located on the legendary Costa da Morte. It is a different and unique route, since it is the only one that does not lead to Compostela, but starts from there, and for that reason it is used as a continuation or epilogue of the path taken by each pilgrim, walking the few days that remain until the end of the world. .

The only notable slope is the climb to Mar de Ovellas. We cross the Tambre river through Ponte Maceira and arrive at Negreira. Accommodation in Negreira. Low difficulty. We leave Santiago. Behind us is the Plaza del Obradoiro and the imposing Cathedral. We head towards Negreira. This first stage has an easy and comfortable layout.
Medium difficulty. A tough stage in terms of kilometers but that is rewarded by the imposing landscapes. On this journey we move completely away from the urban and paved worlds to enter into imposing forests of oak and chestnut trees. You have to face climbs like that of Monte Aro, but once at the top we have a fantastic view of the Fervenza reservoir, bathed by the Xallas river. Accommodation in Olveiroa.
Medium difficulty. Last stage inside. The Xallas River continues to accompany us on the way up to Hospital. Further on you will find the fork that indicates the Way to Muxía for those who wish to do this variant. In this case we follow Cee direction. We pass through the Cruceiro Marco de Couto, the Hermitage of Nuestra Señora das Neves and the Chapel of San Pedro Mártir until we reach Cruceiro da Armada, where for the first time we see the sea. Here begins a steep descent to our destination for today, Cee. Accommodation in Cee.
Medium difficulty. We start this day heading towards Corcubión, a charming fishing village declared a Historic-Artistic Site. The Atlantic Ocean accompanies us on this placid walk to Cape Fisterra, our long-awaited goal along this entire Camino. Here, weather permitting, we can enjoy one of the most beautiful sunsets at the “End of the World”. Accommodation in Fister.
Low difficulty. We have to undo the walk towards Langosteira beach and head towards San Martiño de Duio. Once we have passed this village we find a climb that takes us to Buxán, which is the intermediate point of our stage today. We will pass through small villages until we reach Lires. Accommodation in Lires.
Lires – Muxia (14.3 km +/- 3 hours)
Medium difficulty. With the Atlantic Ocean accompanying us, this last section starts strong with +/- 9 ascending kilometers to Facho de Lourido. Once at the top, we will enjoy its impressive views. The good thing about going up is that then it’s time to go down, and we will do that. We will descend to Xurarantes to finally reach Muxía. In Muxía we cannot miss its famous Santuario da Virxe da Barca. Accommodation in Muxía.
